Winnie Yip (b. 1993) is a visual artist who received her Diploma (Fine Arts) from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. With a strong emphasis on materiality, her work addresses and explores around self-identity, focusing particularly on her ideas of love and how it affects herself and her surroundings.
She is an art director/co-editor for an upcoming online art platform X. Winnie has also participated in exhibitions such as "Proposals For Waterloo" NOISE Art Mentorship Showcase, Waterloo Centre and "Future Imperfect" Young Printmakers League.
Drawn to the oddities of daily encounters and experiences, Winnie yip creates work motivated by social interactions between humans, objects and memories. Exploring the value of the unseen and liminal spaces in relationships in contemporary culture and observes how these are kept in memory. Her fasination with love grew from a visual language constructed by her own personal encounters and repression from her dysfunctional family.
By combinating installation and multimedia, she uses love as a starting point of her creative process as a way to understand social views on love which she hopes to generate thoughts and dialogues.
She recently concluded her residency at FreeSpace, Singapore.Her works have been showcased at Noise Art Mentorship: Proposal for Waterloo and Mulan Gallery: Future Imperfect.
